DEAR WASHINGTON,

Thank you for the most amazing four years of college and for all the wonderful opportunities I have been given. There have been ups and downs but I wouldn’t change it because it has shaped me into the person I am today.

When I got to UW I was excited and nervous for what was to come. Watching college gymnastics growing up, the girls always looked like they were having the time of their life and making memories with their friends. I wanted that too, and that day for me had finally come! I was so excited to be a part of a team that immediately felt like family. It has been an honor to have the opportunity to represent this team and this university.

My four years here weren’t always easy. There were injuries, and having to come back from those injuries was a challenge. But with the support of my family, team, coaches, trainer and everyone in the athletic department it was an obstacle I knew I would be able to tackle. After every setback I was determined to come back stronger and better then ever to be there for my team as they were there for me.

I have grown a lot during my time at UW in many ways but the thing I have learned about myself the most is that I am tougher and more determined then I ever thought I was. From coming back from injuries to having good grades and majoring in something I never thought I would have, my experience has proven to me that if I set my mind to something I will find a way to get it done. Prior to college I would have never guessed I would be taking coding classes and majoring in Informatics. These classes haven’t been easy, especially when traveling during season, but I have a passion for working with data and I cannot wait to continue this work in my career.

I have so many wonderful memories at UW and with this amazing team, but a few of my absolute favorite memories are being a part of the team that made Nationals in 2017 and 2018. Sharing the joy and excitement of making history with a team that is like family is the most amazing feeling ever. Getting to compete in Alaska Airlines Arena for the first time, knowing the fans came to see you and your team perform is electrifying.

Traveling with the team and getting to room with someone different every weekend allows you to create a special bond and make memories that will last a lifetime with each of your teammates. Being able to share highlight videos I’ve made before meets and seeing the joy and fire in everyone knowing we are going to go out and have a fantastic time! Being able to go out every week to get better on every routine you compete, and that feeling that you just hit that routine for your team, is the most empowering feeling. You feel like you could conquer anything.

These are the moment I live for and what made the tough days in the gym worth gritting through. These are the memories I will always remember and cherish with me for a long time.

The thing I will take with me is knowing that I am part of a legacy for this program. The culture of this team is truly amazing. You know everyone has your back. You could ask anyone on the team for advice and you know they truly care for you. Everyone embodies the culture and is striving to be their best in every way. The bond we have created will be forever and these memories will last a lifetime.
