The Huskies began their 2017 season internationally, playing in the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge Feb. 9-11. There, Washington defeated the No. 1 and 2 ranked teams, Oklahoma and Auburn. In the opening game, the Huskies defeated No. 2 Auburn in ten innings. Taran Alvelo tossed one shutout against the reigning national champions, Auburn. When the Dawgs weren’t playing they spent time on the beach, zip-lining and volunteering at a local elementary school, teaching the local children softball drills.

After the four game series in Mexico, Taylor Van Zee, Ali Aguilar, Trysten Melhart and Taran Alvelo were named to the All-Tournament Team. Alvelo was named Tournament MVP.
Washington snapped Minnesota's season-opening win streak at 19 games, the longest win streak in Gophers history.
Washington Head Coach Heather Tarr earned her 500th win as head coach against Minnesota on March 10, 2017. She now boasts a 531-215-1 all-time record.

After entering the fifth inning down by 11 runs, the University of Washington Huskies made the biggest comeback of the season to defeat Utah, 13-12, in eight innings on Saturday afternoon.
Four Huskies earned 2017 All-Pac-12 honors as voted on by the conference coaches, the league announced on Monday. Ali Aguilar, Taran Alvelo, Casey Stangel and Sis Bates were each given conference honors after their performances on the field during the 2017 season.

For the 24th straight season, the Huskies made it to the NCAA Tournament and went 3-0 in the Seattle Regional, defeating Montana, Fresno State and Michigan to advance to Super Regionals. Ali Aguilar was named Most Outstanding Player while seven players were selected to the All-Regional Team. Aguilar led all players in the four-team, double elimination tournament with a .625 (5-for-8) batting average. Two of her eight hits were home runs, driving in four RBIs and totaling six runs on the weekend. Morganne Flores, Taylor Van Zee, Kelly Burdick, Julia DePonte, Taran Alvelo and Aguilar were named to the All-Regional Team.
For just the second time in program history, Washington was a host for an NCAA Super Regional when they hosted conference rival, Utah. The Huskies defeated the Utes in a best-of-three series in Seattle.
Washington softball advanced to the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City for the 12th time in program history, the first time since 2013. There, the Dawgs defeated Oregon and UCLA to advance to the semi-finals. Washington’s two losses at the WCWS came from Oklahoma and Florida, the final two teams in the tournament. Ali Aguilar was named to the All-Tournament Team after two sixth-inning, lead-off home runs.

 Alvelo led the team with an overall 2.07 ERA. She totaled 200 strikeouts on the season, finishing third in the conference. The sophomore shutout 16 teams and allowed just 75 earned runs in 235 innings in the circle. During the NCAA Regionals she threw her first career no hitter against Montana.

Aguilar ended the season as the Huskies' leader in home runs with 14, as well as most runs scored with 62. The infielder finished her career with 239 runs scored, making her the new all-time leader at Washington. She also finished in the top-10 for individual career offensive records in batting average (.367; No. 9), RBIs (210; No. 6), doubles (57; No. 3), home runs (58; No. 3), walks (118; No. 6), slugging  percentage (.708; No. 4) and on-base percentage (.476; No. 5).
NFCA Freshman of the Year Finalist… NFCA All-Region Third Team...Pac-12 All-Freshman Team.
As a freshman, Bates led the team and conference all season in triples with six, just one shy from tying the program’s season record.
Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention.
As a junior stole nine bases on ten attempts, played in 63 of 64 games, boasted a .331 batting average and .372 on base percentage.
Pac-12 All-Academic Second Team.
DePonte had the longest on base streak for Washington this season with 18 games. The junior had nine multi RBI games. She has seven home runs this season and a .423 slugging percentage.

Flores led the team and conference and RBIs this season with 74, third in the program all-time season record. The sophomore finished the season with 13 home runs, 15 doubles and 34 runs on 64 hits.
Pac-12 All Academic Honorable Mention.
Melhart lead Washington with 19 stolen bases out of 20 attempts, finishing third overall in the Pac-12 conference. Melhart started 61 out of 64 games for the Huskies in right field.

Stangel led the team in walks this season with 41, finishing her career with 102, Â seventh in all time career walks. The outfielder had 11 home runs this season.
Thomas appeared in 63 of 64 games this season. The junior had eight home runs this season. Thomas also had a .987 fielding percentage for the Huskies with only four errors on 302 chances.

Van Zee struck out just six times in 207 at bats. She led the team in doubles with 17. She has 45 doubles in her three years at Washington, moving to seventh in the program’s history for career doubles. The junior also led the team in hits with 76, seven of which being home runs. She finished the season with the team’s highest batting average with .367.
