Trey Adams stopped to think. Then he started to smile.

The left tackle was trying to put his sophomore season into context and found a fitting way to put it in perspective.

“It’s been amazing,” Adams said. “I don’t think I’ve ever won 12 games in my life, especially not in high school. It’s a cool feeling to come out to work every day with all of these guys who are so amped up.”

Winning 12 games isn’t a rare accomplishment for Adams alone. It has only happened just one other time in the program’s history, 25 years ago during the 1991 national championship season.

And, with that kind of success, attention follows.

“It’s been kind of weird, because you’re getting all this attention and we’re not really used to that, but it’s been a really great experience and I think we earned it,” Adams said.

But, while the experience has been unique, this is why Adams decided to play for Washington.

“This is why every kid came here, to get to the top, to win a lot of games, to do all the stuff we’re doing,” he said. “I knew we’d be good this year. I didn’t know we’d be quite this good. You always have faith in your team, but we played our cards right, got a little luck and we’re doing well.”

To understand Adams’ importance to this program, just look at his bio. Under the current season, there is one stat, really the only information needed. He has started each game the Huskies have played this season at left tackle. He has protected Jake Browning’s blind side and helped blow open holes for running backs Myles Gaskin and Lavon Coleman.

When asked about his success, the first-team, All-Pac-12 selection was as humble as he is talented.

“The left side, me and Jake (Eldrenkamp), we’re pretty solid,” he said.

And that’s what makes Adams so successful. He is confident in his ability, but he is always working to improve. His focus is to make sure the program’s offensive line is one of the strongest units on the team.

He has become an anchor while, along the way, helping the program pile up 12 wins before heading to a New Year’s Eve matchup with top-ranked Alabama in the Peach Bowl.
