Team Recon Rallies To Claim 2016 Omaha Challenge Championship

In what has become an annual team-building competition for the Husky Baseball players, Team Recon consisting of AJ Graffanino, Josh Cushing, John Naff, Michael Petrie, Tommy Costello, Adam Davenport and Joe Demers won the 2016 Omaha Challenge. Team Recon beat Team LRRPs in the four-day competition’s final event – the tug-a-war – to rally for the victory.

Purple (Team LRRPs) jumped out to a commanding lead on Day One winning the Vehicle Push and Plate Carry, but Gold (Team TACP) narrowly trailed by 50 points.

Purple (Team LRRPs) and Grey (Rangers) both scored 450 points on Day Three, but it was Team LRRPs that carried the overall lead heading into the final day of action.

Competition

A win in each of the first 22 events was worth 150 points, followed by 100 for second and 50 for third. Team Recon won six events before breaking through with the final victory.

Team Purple, consisting of Jack Meggs, Jacob Hirsh, Willie MacIver, Christian Jones, Alex Hardy, Leo Nierenberg and Josh Burgmann led the competition from the start, but could not hold on to a 50-point lead. The tug-a-war came down to the first- and second-place teams after the completion of 22 events and Team Recon won two-of-three to take home the crown as 2016 Omaha Games champion.

It all came down to the Tug-A-War and Team Recon proved their mettle and strength to earn 2016 bragging rights.

Comraderie

The Omaha Challenge is the last time time the Husky Baseball team will be separated into smaller units. After the holiday break, the team will return to Montlake to form one cohesive group with the goal of punching their ticket to Omaha for the College World Series.

WHy WE Compete

The Omaha Challenge was designed to honor our troops and special forces who put their lives on the line every day to keep our country safe. Five teams consisting of seven players participated in a series of events over four days, testing their strength, stamina, agility and mental toughness. While only one team walked away as champions, the entire team learned the value of hard work, courage, sportsmanship and teamwork that our troops exemplify. The event wrapped up a spirited fall for the Husky Baseball team that saw the squad bond through teamwork and competition.
